Accuracy of Computerized Axiography Controlled by MRI in Detecting Internal Derangements of the TMJ

چکیده
Objectives: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of 3-D computed axiography to detect anterior disk displacements (ADD) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Methods: 564 joints with no disk displacement (NDD), 114 joints with reducible displaced disk (RDD) and 36 joints with permanently displaced disk (PDD) confirmed on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were examined by 3-D computerized axiography. The assessment of TMJ disk position was based on the sagittal MRI plane (the position of the disk was controlled by coronal images). Results: Pathological TMJ states on axiography could be demarcated with sensitivity of approximately 80% end specificity of approximately 90% from healthy joints. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study we suggest, that jaw-tracking devices remains an accurate evaluation method for determination of TMJ dysfunction.

Correlation between condyle morphology and disk position of disc displacement in patients with TMJ internal derangements by magnetic resonance imaging
Background and Aims :The most frequent cause of TMJ dysfunction is internal derangement which that largely involves the function of the articular disc. Anterior disc displacement (ADD) is one of the major findings in TMJ internal derangement. Since the importance of knowledge of its etiology and also The role of all structural indicators association with TMD was not evaluated, in this researc...

Background and Aims: Internal derangement of the Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the most common form of Temporomandibular disorders, which represents an abnormal internal strucural and functional change of the disk, as well as an abnormal relationship of the disk to the condyle, glenoid fossa and articular eminence when the teeth are in the closed- mouth position. The aim of this study was to...
متن کاملAccuracy Rate of Clinical Diagnosis of Disc Displacement without Reduction in Temporomandibular Joint Using MRI
Introduction: Internal derangement (ID) of TMJ is the most common type of temporomandibular disorders after muscle disorders and includes all disorders related to incoordination and dislocation of disc and condyle. Anterior disc displacement without reduction or closed lock will happen if the disc or condyle displaces severely or if the disc traps in the space in front of the condyle accompanie...
متن کاملAccuracy of MRI in Comparison with Arthroscopic Findings in the Diagnosis of Anterior Cruciate Ligament and Meniscus Tears
Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is of great aid in the diagnosis of knee lesions. Nevertheless, arthroscopy has remained the reference standard for the diagnosis of internal derangements of the knee, against which alternative diagnostic modalities should be compared. This study was designed to assess the value of MRI and clinical examination in the diagnosis of Anterior Cruciate Li...
